Today, 20 July — International Moon Day, marking the anniversary of the first human Moon landing — Center for Projects Plovdiv confirms its status as the first Moon Village Association-designated Moon Village Center in Europe.
Bulgaria's First Moon Village Center
CPP's designation by the Moon Village Association as the first Moon Village Center in Europe was awarded in May 2026. A Moon Village Center is a space culture hub — a place where space science, exploration and public culture meet. The recognition builds directly on CPP's work over the past year: Bulgaria's first contemporary space art exhibition, Book of the Moon, held at the Episcopal Basilica of Philippopolis in February–March 2026, and the MoonBound project, which placed a Bulgarian artist's work among 50 European artists in a collection bound for the lunar surface.
The Moon Village Center positions Plovdiv within a growing European network at the intersection of space science, contemporary art and public engagement — an unusual pairing for a mid-sized Bulgarian city, and one CPP intends to keep building on.

Why Today
International Moon Day was chosen deliberately. It commemorates the first time humans set foot on another world — a milestone that, more than half a century on, still stands for what's possible when scientific ambition meets public imagination. It felt like the right day to open both a new chapter for CPP's public presence, and a new chapter in its work connecting Bulgaria to the wider story of lunar exploration.
